BARCELONA GO TOP OF LA LIGA AFTER ARAUJO’S STOPPAGE TIME WINNER
A Ronald Araujo stoppage-time goal snatched a win for Barcelona against Catalan rivals Girona as they moved top of La Liga.
Barcelona dominated the opening 15 minutes of the game and opened the scoring through a lovely strike by Pedri.
Girona then equalised shortly after through a brilliant bicycle kick by Axel Witsel which shocked the home crowd.
The visitors had several great opportunities to take the lead in the first half, but failed to convert them and were made to rue those missed chances.
In the second half, Barcelona were the dominant side as Girona sat back. A couple of big opportunities fell to both Marcus Rashford and Fermin Lopez, as Paulo Gazzaniga was tested in the Girona net.
As the visitors looked to have held on for a point, they were punished in stoppage time as Frenkie De Jong's cross found the substitute Araujo, who placed a smart finish into the bottom corner for a dramatic winner.
The three points moved Barcelona top of La Liga, one point ahead of Real Madrid before they play Getafe on Sunday.
There is a box-office encounter next weekend, as both sides go to head in El Classico at the Bernabeu on Sunday. Hansi Flick was sent off during the game, meaning he will not be on the touchline for the clash.
Girona will be devastated as a draw would have taken them out of the relegation positions.
