Bournemouth 0-0 Brentford result - Premier League stalemate on south coast as Andoni Iraola's side fail to take chances in chase for top seven

Marcus Tavernier twice hit the post for Bournemouth as they were held to a goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium by Brentford.

There was controversy following the first hitting of the woodwork, as Tavernier clearly had his heel clipped before, diverting the ball against the post from eight yards out. VAR ruled it was not a penalty.

In the first half, Bournemouth had another chance from Tavernier, whose low effort from a narrow angle was blocked at his near post by Caoimhin Kelleher, and then Ryan Christie looked to roll the ball around the Bees stopper in the six-yard box but lost control of the ball.

Tavernier crashed another fine effort against the angle of post and bar 12 minutes from time, following Evanilson's through ball, but they still had one more gilt-edged chance left.

The Cherries should have secured victory in injury time when Tavernier turned creator and pulled the ball back to Eli Junior Kroupi but his goal-bound effort was inadvertently deflected wide by Enes Unal, as the Turkish striker looked to let the ball run between his legs.

The result sees Brentford stay in seventh and Bournemouth, for 24 hours at least, rise up to ninth.

Jordan Henderson of all people was in confrontation with someone on the opposition bench as a clutter of players and officials engaged in a rugby maul on the sideline.

He also picks up a card for kicking the ball away.

Damsgaard was racing clear on a breakaway and Adams brought him down.

And it was a deflection off Unal which stopped it going in! Tavernier did brilliantly on the touchline and pulled back for the Cherries' top scorer but the Turkish striker in trying to avoid the ball inadvertently brushed it with his inner thigh and wide of the goal.

Adams won possession and then Kroupi drove towards goal and played Unal the ball on the edge of the area, but he was dispossessed.

But he flicks a header over the bar.

Quite nice to see a round of applause for Outtara on his return to the south coast.

Do either team have the drive to push to break the deadlock in the closing stages.

He has put in a decent shift the Cherries number nine.

He dragged the ball inside two defenders, a little reminiscent of an Ibrahimovic goal at Ajax, before slipping coolly past Kelleher, but he was clearly offside when he got the ball.

He was played in perfectly by Evanilson and struck the ball from the left-hand side of the penalty area truly, but it came off the angle of post and bar.

Van den Berg got his head on a free kick sent into the box but Petrovic pushed away and then no Brentford player was in the vicinity to put home the rebound.

The dangerous Kroupi and Adli come on. Christie and Rayan depart.

But Hill clears with a brave header when Schade looked like getting an effort on target.

But he doesn't get a good enough connection on his shot and Petrovic comfortably saves

Neither side looking like scoring at present. Changes needed from the sideline you feel.

A bit of a surprise, he was probably the best player in the first half. He is not happy coming off.

He is cautioned for a foul on Christie.
