Brighton 0-1 Crystal Palace result - Ismaila Sarr's second-half goal gives visitors first victory in two months

After nine weeks without a victory, Crystal Palace finally got back to winning ways, securing bragging rights in the M23 derby at Brighton thanks to Ismaila Sarr's second-half strike.

After a dreary first half, Palace asserted their authority over a below-par Brighton after the break and deservedly went in front when substitute Evann Guessand drew two players before playing through Sarr to run into the box and slot home into the roof of the net.

Brighton showed little sign of getting back into the game, with their only real chance coming to Charalampos Kostoulas. He was played through on the left flank by Georginio Rutter and, after having time to turn inside towards goal, saw his effort blocked by Dean Henderson.

Palace could have gone further in front in the closing stages when Daniel Munoz pulled back to lively debutant Jorgen Strand Larsen whose effort was denied by a fine save from Bart Verbruggen.

The win sees The Eagles rise two places to 13th, one point in front of Brighton who have not won in five league games now.

He is lucky to escape a second booking. Palace clear the ensuing free kick.

He controls a long ball in the box, but Lacroix just gets a toe in to take the ball off him and it balloons in the air and into Henderson's arms.

And he deservedly gets a huge ovation from the Palace fans.

It was a cynical foul stopping a breakaway and deservedly earns a booking.

Hinshelwood and O'Riley come on for Kostoulas and Rutter.

It seems for time wasting.

Palace are full value for their lead.

But he heads high over the bar.

A poor ball from Mitoma puts him through on goal and from a narrow angle, with no team-mates in sight, he drills a low shot which Verbruggen blocks.

Welbeck, Minteh and Gomez come on. De Cuyper, Howell and Baleba go off.

He has made a real difference to the side today. This one is just too far in front of Sarr.

An inswinging corner curled at Verbruggen but with a jump the Palace man got to the ball at a higher point but put his header over the bar.

Mitoma passes inside and then Rutter plays a good through ball. Kostoulos has time to turn his body inside to open up the whole goal but his shot is blocked by Henderson.

Sarr is the Seagulls nemesis again. Guessand draws two defenders leaving Sarr to run free to the left and the ball is played into his path. He runs into the box and shoots with his left foot over Verbruggen and into the net.

He arrives late and comes down on Kostoulas' foot.
