Chelsea 2-2 Leeds United result: Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha rescue point for visitors as The Blues blow a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge

Cole Palmer produced late miss of the season contender as Chelsea blew a two-goal lead to allow Leeds United to rescue a 2-2 draw in a rollercoaster contest at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts had looked in complete control when Joao Pedro capped a fine first-half when he raced on to Palmer’s lovely pass and clipped a superb finish over Karl Darlow on 24 minutes.

Palmer then doubled The Blues’ advantage from the penalty spot just shy of the hour following Jaka Bijol’s bizarre shove on Joao Pedro.

However, the visitors silenced the stadium with two goals in six crazy minutes soon after.

First, Lukas Nmecha converted a spot kick after a foul by Moises Caicedo, before chaotic Chelsea defending from a long ball allowed substitute Noah Okafor to earn a share of the spoils 17 minutes from time.

Palmer thought he had won it in stoppage time, but somehow blazed over from inside the six-yard box with the goal gaping.

Next up, Chelsea visit Hull City in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night. Leeds are also in cup action and travel to Birmingham City on Sunday.

"It's amazing. In the first half, I don't feel like we really got close. They were really good in midfield, overloading areas and we tried to press them over the pitch and they have really good players, found good solutions, but we kept going and got our rewards.

On the Leeds penalty: "I'm confident on penalties, and I'm just pleased that we got it. To get that last goal from Noah [Okafor] just showed our hard work. We pressed them and just tried to choke them out. It worked, and a point here is very respectable and we're in a fight to stay in the league and we're doing a good job.

"We played with Bogle [Jayden] a bit higher. I don't think there are many right-backs that can play right wing, and he did a good job getting in the pockets and getting on the ball, Brenden Aaronson in these type of games, works hard.

"They're very talented, but they're still a young group, so we tried to use the momentum, smother them, and it worked. For the last 10-15 minutes, we had to grind it out and we did.

"I've never been at a club quite like this with the fans, you can hear them now. It's an honour to play for them. I think we've had that belief from the beginning of the season, even when results weren't going our way. We're a good group and really proud of the boys today."

"Well it was a chance," he said on TNT Sports at Stamford Bridge.

"First of all, you've got to credit Leeds. They’ve done incredibly well tonight. Chelsea should have seen the game out.

"A really disappointing night for the team. It's the same problems, you are ahead in the game, you need a bit of maturity, a bit of nous. Then you give away a silly penalty. When you start making these mistakes and they become repetitive, it's very frustrating."

"First half was an outstanding performance by Chelsea we waxed lyrical about everything Chelsea did, but I said we have to be cautious, because you have to manage the game. You can't give them a sniff, Leeds, and they got the job done."

McManaman: "It was absolutely fizzed into him, but he can't believe it, Chelsea fans can't believe it. It was hard to control. I don't know whether it goes over the bar or goes wide and high. This is brilliant play by Gusto for Caicedo. It's whacked in, he just can't control it and keep it down, but he can't. It comes off his ankle and it goes over the bar. That's a rare one for Palmer, and he's had a good night."

Longstaff immediately booked for fouling Palmer.

The Leeds man insists he didn't make contact and replays suggest so.

Leeds will move up to 15th spot, six points clear of the drop zone.

Neto jinks in from the right and arcs a delicious cross into the middle that evades everyone and flies a whisker past the far post.

A loose ball breaks to Aaronson who lets rip with a 25-yard pile-driver that is well blocked.

That may well have been an important intervention too as it was a clean strike.

It's all Chelsea right now as they look to respond to blowing a two-goal lead.

Delap doesn't see the left-wing corner until late and can only guide a header wide under pressure.

"I'm happy with that. It's accidental. As far as I'm concerned, it happened so far before the goal was scored, I'm more than happy for that. He doesn't knock it off in front of his own path, it's off his leg, it's behind, it's come off his elbow.

"Then they could've cleared it 10 times after that, but it falls to Okafor, and out of nothing it's Chelsea 2 Leeds 2!"
