Chelsea 3-2 West Ham United recap: Enzo Fernandez scores late to complete comeback in Stamford Bridge thriller

Chelsea battled from two goals down to earn three precious points in a 3-2 win against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge.

Half-time substitutes Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella came off the bench to pull Chelsea level, before Enzo Fernandez grabbed a dramatic winner in added time.

The Hammers enjoyed the perfect start when Jarrod Bowen’s cross from the right evaded everyone, including goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, as the ball nestled into the bottom left corner.

Chelsea failed to produce any sort of reply as West Ham continued to push for a second and they were rewarded in the 36th minute when Crysencio Summerville met a cross from the right and whipped the ball into the top corner with a first-time strike.

Liam Rosenior made three changes at the break and the hosts looked like a totally different outfit from the whistle in the second half. They piled the pressure on the West Ham back-line and were rewarded just before the hour mark when Pedro pulled one back with a scrappy header for his fifth goal in as many games.

Chelsea threw everything at West Ham in a dominant second half and found the equaliser when Liam Delap headed onto the bar, only for Cucurella to nod home the rebound with a diving header.

West Ham had a golden opportunity to snatch a third late on but Jean-Clair Todibo sent an effort over the bar from just a few yards out.

Chelsea got away with one, but they were not prepared to settle for just a point as Fernandez broke into the box to smash home Pedro’s cross before Todibo was sent off in the late stages for grabbing Pedro around the throat.

Victory for Chelsea puts them back in the top four, overtaking Manchester United, while West Ham missed the chance to close the gap on 17th-place Nottingham Forest.

And breathe!

What a game that was. Chelsea were totally controlled by West Ham in the first half, but completely dominated the second and earned the three points to take them into the top four!

Todibo looks to have grabbed Pedro at the throat and Anthony Taylor has no option but to send him off after a VAR check.

West Ham win a corner, but VAR are looking at all sorts here, as well as a potential West Ham red card.

Chelsea look set for a fourth when Palmer, totally unmarked, receives the ball just a few yards from goal, but smashes his effort over the bar.

Pedro is involved again as he cuts the ball back for Fernandez arriving in the box, before slamming the ball beyond Areola.

They were booed off at half-time! What a response this has been.

Chelsea might have won it!

West Ham are starting to get back into the game a bit after the Chelsea domination, which saw them score twice.

Rosenior makes his fifth change and there's a big cheers as Reece James comes on.

Bowen and Malick Diouf make way for Adama Traore and Ollie Scarles.

In a first West Ham attack for a while, Bowen drives down the left and takes aim at the Chelsea goal but Sanchez stands firm.

That's the way it's going at the moment, and you feel that this might be the story for the remaining 12 minutes plus added time, unless they find a third before then.

Callum Wilson is ready for action.

This really has been a game of two halves.

Chelsea have been much, much better in the second half, but you feel that they won't be satisfied with a draw.

It's a first of the season for Cucurella.

They're looking at a foul from Delap in the build-up...
