Leeds United 1-2 Aston Villa recap - Premier League result as incredible Morgan Rogers brace secures victory after Lukas Nmecha scores bizarre goal

Morgan Rogers scored two sensational second-half goals for Aston Villa to secure a 2-1 Premier League win over Leeds United, who started strongly and took the lead but ultimately fell to a fifth defeat in six games to heap further pressure on Daniel Farke.

Lukas Nmecha got the hosts off to the perfect start with a bizarre goal after Gabriel Gudmundsson skied a difficult chance that looked certain to go out for a goal kick.

Instead, it looped to the other post where Nmecha and Anton Stach out-battled Emiliano Martinez for the aerial ball, which bounced to Ezri Konsa who attempted a clearance that cannoned off the German and into the net.

Leeds had further opportunities to take the lead, most notably through Brenden Aaronson, but the game flipped seconds after half-time when Morgan Rogers produced an unbelievable first-time finish at the near post with his back to goal to equalise.

A much more even second-half offered chances to both sides, but it was another moment of magic from Rogers that put the visitors in front.

Pascal Struijk committed a professional foul right on the edge of the penalty area and with only 19 yards to work with, Rogers somehow floated the ball over the wall and into the unprotected side of Lucas Perri’s net to send Aston Villa’s supporters delirious.

Leeds looked like they had equalised almost immediately when Dominic Calvert-Lewin turned a Daniel James cross home, but VAR correctly ruled it out with the decisive touch coming off the striker’s hand.

And though they piled on the pressure in the last 10 minutes, Leeds were unable to find an equaliser, meaning they remain in the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Aston Villa move into the top four and will stay there unless Tottenham can beat Arsenal in the North London Derby.

Boos ring out as for the second time in a row, Leeds took the lead but ultimately fell to defeat.

More pressure will mount on Farke, as Leeds played well especially in the first half yet finish empty-handed while Villa have lots to celebrate, up into the top four at least temporarily thanks to two magical Rogers goals.

Not only do Villa snuff out the danger, they break upfield through Barkley which takes vital time off the clock.

That's more like it. Leeds force all the Villa players back into the box, then win a free kick when Cash jumps out and fouls Gnonto.

Same as the first half, Leeds can't get the ball even to the final third right now.

James did fantastically for the disallowed goal, but he's wasted an opportunity there, firing well over from distance.

That should've been the equaliser! A fizzing free kick is met by Struijk eight yards out but he can only get glancing contact with the ball, allowing Martinez a chance at saving it.

Even then, the save is brilliant with plenty of pace on the ball and the Argentine had next to no time to react.

Farke is throwing everything at picking up at a least a point here - with how well Leeds have played they can't afford to leave empty-handed.

Wilfried Gnonto plays his first game since September and Joel Piroe also enters the fray, as Okafor and Aaronson trot off.

It's harsh on Leeds but this is exactly the type of decision VAR is there for.

Calvert-Lewin kept his arm close to his torso but was cheekily sticking his hand out and that's what turned the ball goalwards, Villa retain their lead but will face a barage in the last 10 minutes.

As Villa are still celebrating that goal, singing 'Leeds are falling apart again', The Whites level it!

Many Leeds fans thought Dan James should've started but he's on now and latches on a through ball, cutting in and after drawing Martinez from goal, fires the ball across goal for Calvert-Lewin to turn home!

Elland Road goes delirious, but there will be a VAR check with Villa immediately appealing for handball.

The first one was good, that's even better! From impossibly close, just 19 yards, Rogers somehow gets the ball up and over the wall with Perri rooted to the spot!

The wall didn't time their leap perfectly but even so, that's a wondrous finish.

Gudmundsson slips and Malen looks set for a one-on-one until Struijk wipes him out, just on the edge of the penalty area. Struijk is hooked but may well have saved a goal, as replays show the foul was outside the box.

Farke makes a big call, withdrawing Tanaka, despite him only being on the field for 50 minutes, and goalscorer Lukas Nmecha for Dan James and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Ollie Watkins and John McGinn - who've both had frustrating afternoons - are the next Villa players off, Jadon Sancho and Ross Barkley.

There will be a reshuffle here with Malen, who just slides a shot wide, going to centre-forward with Sancho playing left-wing and Rogers switching to the right while Barkley moves to attacking midfield.

Aaronson is controversially called offside by the linesman but replays show that might've been incorrect which will be frustrating for Leeds as their attack was still ongoing when the call came in.

At the other end, McGinn curls an effort just high and wide.

He becomes the third Leeds player in the book.

It's been a much more even second half so far, and both teams are taking a bit of a breather on the hour mark.

That was almost 2-1 to Villa! The visitors break upfield quickly and Watkins is able to cut in and fire, with Perri only parrying the ball.

Pascal Struijk is in the area but doesn't realize Malen is bearing down on him and plays the ball back to Perri, who scrambles a clearance.
