Leeds United 3-1 Burnley result - Premier League recap as hosts move nine points clear of drop zone with easy win

Anton Stach, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all got on the scoresheet as Leeds United cruised past managerless Burnley at Elland Road to move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The hosts started on the front foot, and Stach made their dominance count when he squeezed a low shot into the near corner off the post from 25 yards out, catching Martin Dubravka off guard.

Interim Burnley manager Mike Jackson was taking charge of his first Premier League match, but his side looked toothless, not managing a single shot until the very end of the first half.

However, any momentum they could have gained from that was instantly wiped out when Okafor doubled Leeds' lead, hitting a half-volley sweetly into the bottom corner after Calvert-Lewin and Jayden Bogle linked up beautifully in the build-up.

Minutes later, Calvert-Lewin made it three, beating several other players to the ball to bundle home after Dubravka spilled Ao Tanaka's long-range effort.

Burnley thought they had got a consolation when Lucas Pires netted a rebound, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside.

However, Loum Tchaouna's goal five minutes later did stand when he timed his run perfectly before arrowing a shot into the far corner.

Defeat leaves already-relegated Burnley with just one league win since October, as their return to the Premier League continues to end with a whimper.

Leeds, meanwhile, move up to 14th, leapfrogging Newcastle United, and are now nine points clear of 18th-placed Tottenham, who they play next Monday.

Burnley looked like they were going for it but the game is starting to peter out now.

Leeds visit Tottenham next Monday and could well go into that match knowing a point would guarantee survival.

Another change for Leeds as Anton Stach, who got the ball rolling, finally makes way. He's replaced by Brenden Aaronson.

Ethan Ampadu is the latest player to get booked.

Burnley make two more changes as Bashir Humphreys and Zian Flemming are replaced by Zakia Amdouni and Armando Broja.

This is the first time Amdouni has played since last season, having picked up a knee injury in pre-season.

Jaidon Anthony threads the ball through to Loum Tchaouna, who just about stays onside.

The ball bobbles favourably as he drives at Pascal Struijk, before Tchaouna smashes the ball into the far corner.

A lifeline? No the flag is up.

Zian Flemming shifts the ball across to Bashir Humphreys, whose shot is palmed out, before Lucas Pires taps home.

VAR will check this, but it does look very close. No, Pires is just leaning offside.

Leeds make a change now as Noah Okafor, limping slightly, goes off for Lukas Nmecha.

Burnley roll the dice too, bringing off James Ward Prowse and Quilindschy Hartman for Florentino Luis and Lucas Pires.

Martin Dubravka looks to have done himself some damage trying to save that rebound, having been caught by a couple of players.

He looks alright to carry on for now, but Burnley are in deep trouble.

In response, Burnley bring on Hannibal Mejbri for Josh Laurent. He is greeted by boos, having received a four-match ban for spitting at the Leeds fans in the reverse fixture.

But Leeds instantly have a third!

Ao Tanaka's shot is spilled by Martin Dubravka and there are four shirts closing in from both sides.

However, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the one who gets there first and steers home.

Wonderfully worked by Leeds and they look set to get three points now.

A terrible pass from Bashir Humphreys lets Dominic Calvert-Lewin intercept. He drives forward before finding Jayden Bogle with a backheel.

Bogle crosses to Noah Okafor, who hits the volley into the far corner.

James Ward-Prowse goes for goal but it flicks Ao Tanaka and makes it comfortable for Karl Darlow.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin downs Bashir Humphreys and becomes the fifth player to get a yellow card.

No changes for either side, even though Anton Stach was expected to only last 45 minutes.

Burnley get the second period up and running.

This result could push Tottenham further towards relegation...

Chance for Burnley! Loum Tchaouna floats a lovely cross to Jaidon Antony, who heads goalwards, but it is blocked by his own player, Zian Flemming.

It lacked power and was unlikely to end up in the back of the net anyway.
