Leeds 3-1 Nottingham Forest recap - Daniel Farke's team move nine points clear of relegation zone as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scores 10th goal of season

Leeds United opened up a nine-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone as they swept aside fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest with an impressive 3-1 win at Elland Road.

Neither team showed any interest in sitting back from the first whistle, with Forest in particular forging a string of chances as Callum Hudson-Odoi and Nicholas Dominguez were denied by Karl Darlow, while Igor Jesus wasted three headers.

Those misses came back to bite the visitors as Daniel Farke’s side took the lead when Jayden Bogle prodded home after running onto Ilia Gruev’s ball over the top. Noah Okafor doubled the lead when he converted from James Justin’s pass soon after.

It stayed that way until the break, albeit Darlow was on hand again to thwart Morgan Gibbs-White, and that stop looked even more crucial when Dominic Calvert-Lewin cleverly diverted Gruev’s shot past debutant Stefan Ortega shortly after half-time for his 10th goal of the campaign.

That was well and truly game over, as Forest put in a disappointing display - although they did pull one back late on when debutant Lorenzo Lucca headed home in the 85th minute, whereas Leeds, who missed further opportunities through Calvert-Lewin and Gruev, extended their good run to two defeats in 13.

Leeds, who many believed were doomed before a ball was even kicked this season, open up a nine-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Forest are three points further back, and fans may still be nervously looking over their shoulders

A decent effort from just inside the area is heading into the net, but Darlow dives high and tips over the bar - not for the first time this evening, it must be said

Perhaps not the man Forest want the ball to fall to on the edge of the area, but it does so again, and once more, the Nigeria international skews off target

The excellent Bogle, who scored the opener, gets a standing ovation as he leaves the field.

The visitors pull one back, and it's a debut goal for 6 ft 7 inch strike Lucca, who climbs high to nod home an excellent in-swinging cross from the right. Lifeline or consolation?

The ball falls nicely for the substitute in a central position just outside the area, but he's leaning back as he takes his shot, which is guided just over the bar

After a long pause, which has included Gruev getting his nose patched up, we are back underway.

A few seconds later, 30 of them to be precise, Gruev is able to enter the field of play again.
