Manchester City 3-1 Bournemouth result - Erling Haaland at the double as hosts soar to second in Premier League

Erling Haaland continued his outrageous goalscoring form with a brace and Nico O'Reilly powered in his first of the season as Manchester City beat AFC Bournemouth 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland and Rayan Cherki appear to have developed a rapid connection as the latter assisted both of the former's goals on Sunday.

Tyler Adams equalised for the energetic Bournemouth after Haaland's clinical opener, however the visitors were no match for the relentless Cityzens.

Although Bournemouth edged the possession statistic at the Etihad, the away side's ambitious high line allowed City in behind on a few too many occasions.

Andoni Iraola deserves credit for his bravery, though the visit to the Etihad proved a task too tough for The Cherries, still yet to claim a point in the blue half of Manchester in the Premier League era.

Haaland, who hit the famous Peter Crouch robot celebration after his first, profited from Bournemouth's approach for both of his goals. And he could have had a first club hat-trick of the season if it was not for a fine save from Djordje Petrovic.

Arsenal remain well ahead at the summit of the table with 25 points from 10 games but this win keeps Pep Guardiola's side in touching distance, just about. The gap is now six points, while Bournemouth drop to fourth in the table thanks to their electric start.

Haaland has 13 Premier League goals. Every other City scorer this season has one. Maxime Esteve? Yes, Burnley's Maxime Esteve. He has two. Own goals, of course.

Foden receives a huge round of applause and Bernardo Silva hands over the captain's armband as Rodri and Rayan Ait-Nouri head on for the final moments.

It's a big moment for Rodri as he returns from a hamstring injury which kept him sidelined for a month. Before that, he was out for nearly a year with a serious knee injury.

Savinho does terrifically to dribble away from two defenders and get to the byline before chopping the ball back to Marmoush, who fires first time but into the side netting. Still 3-1.

Assisting both of Haaland's goals earlier tonight, Cherki was excellent.

Just as I was tipping Haaland to score his third of the game, Guardiola takes him off for Omar Marmoush.

In fairness, Haaland was rested midweek after suffering a knock against Aston Villa, so there's no need to take any risks. Haaland receives a standing ovation from the Etihad crowd.

Bournemouth's goalscorer is forced off with what looked like a contact injury. Ben Gannon-Doak is on in his place. That was the final change for the visitors.

Just a quick reminder that Erling Haaland is still sitting on a hat-trick here. He's already on his sixth City brace of the season but he's yet to net a hat-trick for his club since the start of 2025/26.

Haaland has scored two hat-tricks for Norway in the past two months, mind. You can just tell by his cheeky facial expressions that he's desperate for that match ball.

Guardiola makes his first two changes as Tijjani Reijnders and Savinho replace Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku. Both coming off made a great impact, especially Cherki with two assists.

Semenyo's powerful cross causes a sketchy moment for O'Reilly as the ball ricochets off both him and Marcus Tavernier before going behind for a goal-kick. Bournemouth aren't done yet.

Scored by O'Reilly, assisted by Foden. That was a goal straight out of the Man City academy.

Foden links up excellently with Cherki on the edge of the area but the shot, on the fringes of the area, is skewed well over the crossbar.

That's an easy yellow for Anthony Taylor to brandish as Truffert has his name taken.

Foden jokes as he's tugged back by the French full-back after receiving a yellow of his own for a similar incident with Jimenez in the first half.
