RETURN OF THE MAC: LIVERPOOL MIDFIELDER'S LATE, LATE SHOW DOWNS FOREST
Alexis Mac Allister found himself at the centre of stoppage-time drama at the City Ground as Liverpool claimed an unlikely 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
After 90 minutes that were largely dominated by a Forest side that played well but could not put away any of their chances, Liverpool appeared to take the lead in bizarre circumstances as the game went into stoppage time.
A stop from Stefan Ortega denied Hugo Ekitike from point-blank range, only for Forest sub Dan Ndoye's attempted volley clearance to cannon into the net off Mac Allister.
As Liverpool celebrated an unlikely winning goal, VAR reviewed the incident and saw that the goal came off the Argentine midfielder's elbow, rather than his back. The goal was promptly chalked off, causing scenes of celebration in the home stands.
But those celebrations soon turned to despair after Dominik Szoboszlai's deep cross was headed across goal by Virgil van Dijk. Once again, Ortega saved but the ball fell perfectly for Mac Allister, who gleefully slammed the rebound home.
Once again, VAR threatened to intervene as the officials reviewed the original cross to see if there was an offside in the build-up. But thanks to the toes of a Forest defender playing Van Dijk onside, the goal stood and Liverpool celebrated a crucial three points in their chase for a UEFA Champions League place.
Liverpool's last-gasp win takes them to 75 points from 27 games played as they find themselves level with Manchester United (who face Everton on Monday night) and Chelsea.
Forest, meanwhile, will bemoan their missed opportunities earlier in the game as they come away from a game they largely dominated with nothing to show for it. They remain on 27 points from 27 games played, just two points clear of West Ham United in the relegation places.

It's VERY ambitious, but Sangare decides to let one fly from all of 30 yards on the volley, and the effort whistles about a yard or so wide of the post.

VAR INTERVENES! THE GOAL IS RULED OUT!
Incredible scenes at The City Ground!
Replays showed that Ndoye's volley went into the net after striking Mac Allister's elbow.
Regardless of whether or not there's any intent, that's a handball, and the goal is wiped off the board.
The City Ground erupts, and it's game on as we head into stoppage time!

LIVERPOOL SCORE... SOMEHOW!
What a way to potentially win, or lose, a game!
A great cross from Mgumoha finds Ekitike at the back post. The big Frenchman MUST score, but Ortega makes a brilliant save to stop his header. The ball drops inside the six-yard box, and Ndoye's attempt to volley clear strikes the back of Mac Allister and flies into the net.
What a remarkable way to break the deadlock!

DOUBLE CHANCE FOR FOREST!
Great work from Williams down the left flank produces two chances for Forest, but still the ball won't go in.
First Morgan Gibbs-White's shot is blocked, then Ibrahim Sangare's effort flashes wide.
Forest are still pushing forward in search of a winner, but time is running out.

TEN MINUTES TO GO
We head into the final 10 minutes (plus stoppage time) with the score still goalless, and Forest's lineup looking completely different to the one that started the game.
Boss Vitor Pereira has made four changes in a bid to create that crucial match-winning chance, while Liverpool have freshened things up with a couple of changes of their own.
But so far, chances have been few and far between, with neither goalkeeper having to really extend themselves in this half.
