Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Leeds United result - Mathys Tel plays hero and villain before Antonin Kinsky makes amazing save to earn Spurs a point

TEL PLAYS HERO AND VILLAIN ON DRAMATIC NIGHT 

Spurs missed the chance to put clear daylight between themselves and West Ham United after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Leeds United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mathys Tel was both hero and villain, scoring a fabulous goal before conceding a penalty that was converted by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The result means that Spurs are two points clear of West Ham – and with a vastly superior goal difference – with two games to play.

A tense first half was most notable for a stunning save by Antonin Kinsky, who reached backwards to claw Joe Rodon’s header off the line.

Tel put Spurs ahead early in the second half with a textbook curler from the edge of the area, only to concede a penalty when he caught Ethan Ampadu with a needless overhead kick. Calvert-Lewin scored emphatically from the spot.

James Maddison came off the bench for his first appearance of the season but could not help Spurs find a winner.

They were grateful for a point when Kinsky made an extraordinary reflex save to push Sean Longstaff’s shot onto the underside of the bar.

Spurs’ destiny remains in their own hands, they are two points clear of West Ham with two games to play.

Roberto De Zerbi's Spurs face Chelsea on May 19 and Everton on May 24, while West Ham take on Newcastle United on May 17 and Leeds on May 24.

Maddison goes over in the area after a very risky challenge from Nmecha. But he got a slight touch on the ball and that saved Leeds.

The resulting corner leads to a half-chance for Longstaff, who screws a half-volley off target. Spurs are hanging on for dear life.

Crikey, I'm not sure anybody expected that.

Djed Spence and James Maddison, who gets a huge cheer as he comes on for his first appearance of the season, replace Mathys Tel and Destiny Udogie.

Their last touch in the Leeds penalty area was in the 59th minute.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin slams a majestic penalty into the left corner of the net. Kinsky went the right way but had no chance of saving it.

It was a daft decision from Tel, who tried an overhead kick to clear the ball and didn't realise Ampadu was coming in on the blindside. It's a clear foul.

Ampadu goes down in the area after being caught by an attempted overhead kick from Tel. Jarred Gillett doesn't give a penalty but it'll be checked by VAR.
