EKITIKE SCORES AGAIN BUT ISAK INJURED AS LIVERPOOL EDGE NINE-MAN SPURS
Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were on target as Liverpool moved up to fifth spot in the Premier League standings with a nervy 2-1 victory at nine-man Tottenham Hotspur.
The flash point in a dour first half saw Xavi Simons sent off on 33 minutes when his poor challenge on Virgil van Dijk was upgraded to a red card following a VAR intervention.
Liverpool made the extra man count following the interval when substitute Isak netted his second league goal from Florian Wirtz’s pass on 56 minutes.

The Swede was immediately forced off with an injury sustained in firing home the opener, but the visitors were soon celebrating again as Ekitike made it five goals in his last three league games with a fine header past the hour.
Substitute Richarlison immediately gave Spurs a lifeline with 10 minutes to go and Liverpool were left hanging on despite the fact the home team had Cristian Romero sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time.
The result sees Liverpool extend their unbeaten run to six matches and moves Arne Slot’s men level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea. Spurs suffered a seventh league loss of the campaign and are down in 13th spot.
Next up, Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday. Liverpool are at home to Wolves on Saturday.

FORMER SPURS AND LIVERPOOL MIDFIELDER REDKNAPP REACTS TO NERVY REDS WIN
"Where do we start? It was so chaotic and [sheer] madness," Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
"Tottenham for large parts were so poor. But what Liverpool did was a masterclass in how not to manage the last 10 minutes of a game. They ended up with nine-men, Tottenham, and they looked like the team that had 11.
"Thomas Frank will go into that dressing room and think ‘we actually did okay there.’"
He added: "What Romero did is what Romero does. It was just ridiculous to get involved right in front of the referee. It was so stupid."
Daniel Sturridge said: "The three points is all that matters. The manager will be slightly disappointed with the lack of control, especially in the last 10 or 15 minutes. Look, they’ve been in a difficult patch. To go away and get three points is a beautiful feeling for the players, you see the joy on their faces - a sign of relief there at the end potentially considering how well Spurs were knocking on the door, but they will go back up North feeling very happy about it."
