LATE PENALTY PUTS IRONS UNDER FIRE AS FOREST WIN SIX-POINTER
Morgan Gibbs-White's 89th-minute penalty saw Nottingham Forest claim a vital three points against relegation battle rivals West Ham at the London Stadium on Tuesday evening.
It was a difficult start for the visitors as Murillo’s efforts to clear Crysencio Summerville’s corner in the 13th minute saw him find the net against his own side.
Despite this, Forest dominated possession in the first half, but failed to capitalise on opportunities, while West Ham seemed to press more. That said, it would be unfair to suggest any real sense of danger from the hosts for the most part.
A wonderful strike by Summerville early in the second half appeared to have doubled The Hammers’ lead, but the goal was eventually disallowed after new boy Valentin Castellanos was found to be offside by the smallest of margins.
Moments later in the 55th minute, Nicolas Domniguez gave the visitors an equaliser, scoring from Elliot Anderson’s corner, and with it, a new lease of life.
In the closing part of the second half, it would be hard to argue that the home side had not dominated, but a poorly-judged clearance by Alphonse Areola saw Forest awarded a penalty after it was deemed that he had fouled Morgan Gibbs-White.
It was the Forest captain to take it, and indeed convert it to give the visitors three points, putting seven points between them and the drop zone, while West Ham go into the third round of the FA Cup now ten games without a win.

SOUCEK: I THOUGHT PREMIER LEAGUE WAS TOUGHEST IN THE WORLD

We wanted to win, we were winning at half-time, it was so close to being 2-0 and I thought that we would get all three points but we lost, and it’s so tough for us because we know where we are on the table.

Asked for his thoughts on whether or not it was right to award Forest a penalty he said:
I came to the premier league because I thought it was the toughest league in the world and that we are all fighters, warriors but it’s more like basketball because you can’t touch the player… It was really tough for all of us.

GIBBS-WHITE: FOREST MUST HAVE MORE BELIEF
Asked if his team were given belief in themselves after their 55 minute equalizer, he said:
Yeah definitely, and it shouldn’t have to be like that. We should be starting every game with the full belief and ready to go, but it’s not been the case recently. Obviously, their goal put us on a downer, but we reacted well. It’s a great header from Dominguez – incredible header – and that gave us the belief to go and show that we can win the game and we did.

It wasn’t a nice game. we knew it was going to be a battle because of the position of both teams, but…the boys never gave up. we fought until the very end… We got a penalty and luckily it went in this time.
Asked about his part in the winning penalty he said:
To be honest, I just got whacked in the face – I didn’t have a clue what was going on. Ijust came to my senses when he said it was a penalty so there was no doubt in my mind I wanted to take it.
