Xavi Simons says 'I've been dreaming of this for a long time' after joining Tottenham Hotspur from RB Leipzig

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Dutch prodigy Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig after two excellent seasons with the Bundesliga side. The 22-year-old midfielder became an online sensation at an early age and signed permanently for Leipzig in January after back-to-back loan spells there. Simons, who looked set to join Chelsea this summer, has also played for Paris Saint-Germain and Dutch side PSV.

Dutch star Xavi Simons has joined Tottenham Hotspur from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig for £51.8m (60m euros).

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the north London side with the option of a further two seasons.

Spurs had appeared to be set on signing Eberechi Eze before a late move from Arsenal secured the Crystal Palace player.

With London rivals Chelsea at one point looking set to sign the Dutch star, Spurs have now completed their own hijack transfer.

Simons told the Spurs website: "I'm really happy and can't wait to get going. I've been dreaming of this for a long time.

"It's a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.

"I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans."

Spurs boss Thomas Frank added: "I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in - he is a great addition to the squad.

"He is still young, however, he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.

A former Barcelona youth player, Simons joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, progressing through their academy to make 11 first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.

The 22-year-old then joined PSV for the 2022-23 season before returning to PSG after the French outfit triggered a buy-back clause.

Simons then joined Leipzig on loan in 2023. The loan was extended the following summer before the German side exercised an option to buy the player for an initial €50million.

Simons established himself as one of Europe's best young players in his two seasons in Germany, netting 21 goals and providing 23 assists in his 76 games.
