Newcastle are in 10th place, and need a win for a late-season push for a European spot as Eddie Howe aims to negotiate a campaign beset by poor performances away from home.

Haaland has again been City's primary goal threat this season, and with 29 goals scored already across all club competitions, he has maintained his high standards.

Marmoush, meanwhile, has notched four goals in 23 matches this term, four off his return from last season. Despite that, Guardiola could be forgiven for giving the Egyptian forward the nod at Etihad Stadium.

That’s because Marmoush’s recent track record against Newcastle will give Howe pause for thought, having scored five goals across his last two home games against the club.

In the previous league meeting at home, he scored a hat-trick, and grabbed a brace in this season’s EFL Cup semi-final.

Haaland, however, has found life against Newcastle to be much tougher. He scored in his very first match against Newcastle for City in August 2022, but since then he has failed to score in any home game against The Toon in any competition.

While Guardiola recently claimed that, for now, he was not worried about his side’s position in the league, there are several stats that indicate City are likely to come out on top if history repeats itself.

That’s because City have won each of their last six Premier League home games against Newcastle, and they have done that with a clean sheet in every one of those matches.

Only Arsenal have a better defensive record at home against The Magpies in their history, going seven games without conceding at home between 2016 and 2023.

City are also unbeaten in their last 21 league games at home to Newcastle, and have won each of the last 16.

A win for Newcastle would be something of a surprise, and it would mark their first league double against City since 1983/84, when they were both in the Second Division (now known as the Championship).

Newcastle defeated City at St James’ Park back in November of this season, though they did lose in both EFL Cup semi-final legs.
