GUNNERS OUTCLASS WIGAN TO SEAL FIFTH-ROUND PLACE
Arsenal swatted aside Wigan Athletic with a comfortable 4-0 win over the League One strugglers in an FA Cup fourth-round tie at the Emirates.
The damage was done inside the opening 27 minutes as strikes from Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Jack Hunt's own goal sealed their place in Monday's fifth-round draw, which will be live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
Eberechi Eze claimed the first of two assists when he played in a delightful through ball for Madueke to slot the ball home past Sam Tickle.
It was 2-0 seven minutes later, with Eze the provider for Martinelli to fire home a clinical angled strike.
The Gunners extended their lead in fortuitous fashion when Hunt could only divert the ball into his own net after Jesus flicked the ball on inside the box.

However, there was certainly no element of fortune about the fourth thanks to a superb chipped finish from Jesus which rounded off the scoring.
At that point, Wigan must have feared they could be on the receiving end of an absolute hammering.
But The Latics rallied impressively after the break to keep the deficit at four, as Tickle made a superb save to deny Martinelli after the break.
There may not have been another goal for Arsenal, but there was a special moment for goalkeeper Tommy Setford, who replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga from the bench to make his FA Cup debut to cap off a fine evening's work for Mikel Arteta's side.

MADUEKE HAILS A 'PROFESSIONAL' PERFORMANCE
He told TNT Sports: "Very pleased. We were very professional, had the right intent. Four goals and a clean sheet. It can be tricky sometimes if you don’t apply yourselves properly, but that wasn’t the case with us today, so we’re really happy."
On Eze's performance, Madueke said: "He was unbelievable today, pulled all the strings from the middle and had a hand in all the goals. Really pleased for him."
On his goal, Madueke said: "I thank God for the goal and the win. That’s my job, to try and help the team. That’s my focus and when we win it’s much better than when we drew like the other day."
On fighting for trophies on four fronts, he said: "They [the fans] have every right to be [excited]. We’re working hard to deliver the type of season I think it ought to be, with the way that we’re playing right now. That’s our main focus. I think it’s exciting, but we need to carry on doing the things we’re doing every single day and see where we are at the end."

WARD AND MATTERFACE HAIL TICKLE
The TNT Sports commentary duo praised Tickle after his fine save to deny Martinelli earlier in the match.
Tickle was previously linked with a move to Arsenal.
Ward said: "It’s a clever ball and hit with some power. He had to react really well there, Tickle in goal. Didn’t have the first half but certainly responded in the second, Wigan.
Matterface added: "That’s probably why Arsenal wanted to sign him. I kind of like the fact that he had the opportunity to come to a club like this but decided he didn’t want to be second or third choice, he wanted to play."
Ward then replied: "You just get the experience of playing first-team minutes. Not many would do that, but you find your level eventually whatever player you are. If he keeps playing well, he could end up playing for a Premier League team."
