Nigeria v Mozambique LIVE – AFCON Round of 16 action as Super Eagles coast into the quarter-finals with emphatic victory

Eric Chelle’s side were on the front foot from the first whistle, pushing forward at every opportunity and looking to put the Mozambique defence under pressure.

Nigeria opened the scoring after 20 minutes, with Alex Iwobi carving the Mozambique defence open with a sensational through ball into the path of Adams, who cut the ball back for Lookman, on hand to smash his effort home past Mozambique goalkeeper Ernan.

The Super Eagles didn’t have to wait long for their second, with Osimhen doubling his side's advantage just five minutes later. Iwobi was once again instrumental, playing an inch-perfect pass into Lookman on the left-hand side. The latter fired in a cross, which, with the aid of a touch from Adams, was converted by Osimhen.

Nigeria needed just 90 seconds of the second half to score their third of the evening, with the ever-impressive Lookman doing brilliantly down the left-hand side to wriggle past a Mozambique defender before cutting the ball across to Osimhen for a tap in.

The Super Eagles put the icing on the cake with 15 minutes to go, with Lookman yet again the provider, finding Adams on the right-hand side of the penalty area, The striker was able to thump his effort past Ernan and into the roof of the net.

Up next for the Super Eagles is a quarter-final showdown against the winner of the match between Algeria and DR Congo, which is being played tomorrow in Rabat.

For Mozambique, it may have ended in elimination and disappointment on the night, but it has been a tournament to remember for the Mambas, who both recorded their first ever win at the Africa Cup of Nations and competed in the knockout stage for the first time at this edition.

The Emirates FA Cup is back, with a host of mouth-watering fixtures for fans to sink their teeth into during third round weekend. Holders Crystal Palace will get the defence of their crown underway against National League side Macclesfield, but that is not all. The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa will also be in action on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique

The Super Eagles romp into the quarter-finals thanks to an emphatic 4-0 victory against Mozambique.

There will be a minimum of three minutes added on at the end of this one.

Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen are proving to be a duo that are a match for any defence in this competition.

Nigeria have put themselves into a fantastic position now with 40 minutes left in this match, they look comfortable on the ball, are playing with a real confidence and look dangerous whenever they go forward.
