Michael Carrick gets Sir Alex Ferguson approval as Manchester United edge closer to naming him permanent manager - Paper Round

According to the Mirror, Carrick has even had the seal of approval from Sir Alex Ferguson after leading the club back to Europe's top competition, losing just two of his 15 games in interim charge.

"Michael Carrick will be handed the chance to become the permanent manager of Manchester United," notes the Mirror.

"Carrick will open talks with club bosses next week about a new and improved deal to replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked in January. United's co-owners the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe believe Carrick has proved he deserves the job on a full-time basis.

"It's understood senior figures at Old Trafford held a conference call, before agreeing on Carrick's appointment.

"Other candidates have been discussed, including Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and Unai Emery. But United know that luring one of these to Old Trafford would be unrealistic, for various reasons.

"It means Carrick is now in pole position to become United's seventh permanent boss since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. And while Fergie has not been consulted during the process, it's understood he approves of Carrick's appointment."

Manchester United have no plans to reintegrate Andre Onana following his loan spell with Trabzonspor, according to the Mirror.

Onana spent the last season on loan with the Turkish side after he lost the gloves to Senne Lammens, who joined the club from Royal Antwerp.

The article reads: "With Onana’s loan with Trabzonspor set to expire over the coming weeks, he has already reportedly expressed a desire to return to Old Trafford and fight for his place. But those hopes look set to be dashed by the Red Devils as they attempt to get their squad in order ahead of next season.

"According to ESPN, there are no plans to include the 30-year-old in the club’s squad and work is already underway to find potential suitors. The Liverpool Echo carries quotes from RB Leipzig star, Yan Diomande, who has been linked with several clubs, including Liverpool.

The 19-year-old has caught the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs, such as Real Madrid and Chelsea, after a standout season in the Bundesliga in which he has scored 12 league goals and registered eight assists.

"Yan Diomande says he remains focused despite transfer links away from RB Leipzig," writes the outlet.

"Liverpool are among the clubs to be mooted with the Ivorian.

"He told Bulinews: 'Of course, if you imagine someone saying you have to go to Chelsea or Real Madrid to do this job, you’re going to be happy and motivated to do more.

"'But I don’t think about this kind of thing because I’m trying to be focused on the pitch. Because my job is playing football, I leave everything else outside the pitch. It gives me a lot of motivation to see clubs speak about me. I'm focused.

"'My contract runs until 2030, so I have four more years. I don’t know what’s going to happen after that. I’m a Leipzig player. Anything can happen in football.'"
