Newcastle United are willing to break their wage structure by offering captain Bruno Guimaraes a contract package worth £40 million to keep the Brazil midfielder at St James' Park long-term, according to reports.

Arsenal have held advanced discussions with the Brazilian's camp over a £55m switch to the Emirates, but Newcastle are ready to counter with a £200,000-a-week deal running until 2030, even though both parties know Arsenal and Manchester United could ultimately offer higher terms.
The Sun reports: ”Newcastle are willing to offer Bruno Guimaraes a club-record £40 million contract to keep him at St James’ Park.
”The Gunners have held talks with the Brazil midfielder’s representatives over a £55m switch to the Emirates and reports claim they are planning a second approach.
”Newcastle insist they have had no direct contact from the North Londoners and informed intermediaries any moves for talisman Guimaraes would be rebuffed.
”And though new contract talks are yet to begin, Sun Sport understands Newcastle are open to thrash out a new bumper package – the biggest in the club’s history – which would take his weekly wage to around £200,000 and keep their star man at the club until 2030.”
Xhaka agrees Chelsea terms but Sunderland resist sale
Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms to seal a summer switch to Chelsea.
New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is understood to be driving the pursuit of the Swiss midfielder following their successful stint together at Bayer Leverkusen, but Sunderland have no desire to part with their skipper and have yet to open formal club-to-club negotiations.
The Mirror explains: ”According to reports in Germany, Granit Xhaka has agreed to join Chelsea, with personal terms already in place.
”Xabi Alonso is believed to be pushing for the move, having previously worked with Xhaka during their time together at Bayer Leverkusen.
”However, Sunderland have no intention of selling their captain, and no discussions between the clubs have taken place at this stage.”
Leeds want Charles fee compromise
Leeds United have entered fresh negotiations with Southampton as they attempt to bridge the valuation gap for midfielder Shea Charles.
Daniel Farke’s side have seen two formal bids exceeding £20 million knocked back by the south coast club, who are holding firm for a £30 million sum for the 22-year-old Northern Ireland international.
The Mail states: ”Leeds United are in talks with Southampton to try to reach a compromise over a fee for Shea Charles.
”Leeds have had two offers of £20 million and above rejected, with Southampton pushing for £30million for the 22-year-old.
”Southampton have also had interest from Atalanta and Everton in the Northern Ireland international while he was also on Manchester United's radar.”
Ugarte injury scuppers Man United overhaul
Manchester United's plans to entirely rebuild their engine room have been thrown into chaos after Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious injury at the World Cup. The 25-year-old midfielder was stretchered off during Uruguay's exit against Spain.
United had intended to bring in three new midfielders this summer, but that strategy was dependent on cashing in on Ugarte, leaving potential moves for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes up in the air.
The Daily Star reports: ”Manchester United's search for a third midfield signing this summer has hit a major stumbling block after Manuel Ugarte sustained a severe injury on Saturday.
”The 25-year-old was stretchered off during Uruguay's 1-0 defeat to Spain, a result that ended the South American nation's World Cup knockout stage hopes.
”The setback arrives as the Reds look to bolster their midfield ranks with Casemiro leaving as a free agent this summer.
”West Ham star Mateus Fernandes features amongst the players United are determined to sign, although Tottenham Hotspur are said to be prepared to offer a more lucrative financial deal.
”The Red Devils had intended to secure three midfielders during this summer's transfer window; however, that hinged on United finding a buyer for Ugarte.”
