Carlos Ancelotti commits to Brazil until next World Cup in 2030 after renewing contract

Ancelotti joined Brazil in May last year, and has overseen 10 games so far in his tenure as Brazil prepare for this summer’s World Cup.

The former Chelsea manager is trying to steer Brazil to a first World Cup trophy since 2002. 

Ancelotti’s current role is his first full international managerial posting, having previously been an assistant for the Italian national team back in the early nineties. 

Since then, he has had successful spells at many of the biggest clubs in Europe - including AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. 

The Italian left Real Madrid at the end of the 2024/25 season, his second spell at the club - signing a one-year deal with Brazil.

”I arrived in Brazil a year ago. From the first minute, I understood what football means to this country. For a year, we have been working to bring the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world,” Ancelotti said in a statement. 

”But the CBF [Brazilian Football Confederation] and I want more. More victories, more time, more work. We are very happy to announce that we will continue together for another four years. 

”We will go together until the 2030 World Cup. I want to thank the CBF for their trust. Thank you, Brazil, for the warm welcome and for all the affection.”

In his 10 games in charge, Ancelotti has led his side to five wins, two draws and three losses.

Brazil have been drawn in the same group as Scotland, Morocco and Haiti for the 2026 World Cup, but first they will play Panama and Egypt in warm-up friendlies. 

”Today is a historic day for the CBF and for Brazilian football. The renewal of Carlo Ancelotti's contract represents another firm step in our commitment to offering the five-time world champion national team an increasingly strong, modern and competitive structure,” explained Samir Xaud, president of the CBF. 

”We work daily to keep Brazil at the highest level of world football, while also paying close attention to the development of other national teams, the competitions organised by the CBF, and the strengthening of clubs and federations throughout the country.”

Brazil’s opening World Cup match is against Morocco on June 13 in New Jersey.
