Colombia v Portugal - World Cup result as sides play out entertaining draw to see South Americans progress as group winners

Colombia held Portugal to a 0-0 draw to guarantee top spot in Group K after an entertaining contest in which the South American side threatened most.

The group's pace-setters started strongly against the highest-ranked team in the section, as James Rodriguez rolled back the years by pulling strings in midfield.

His pinpoint passes troubled Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes, who had an uncharacteristic off-day as both Jhon Cordoba and Jhon Arias came close from tight angles on the right, but Diogo Costa held firm.

As the half progressed, it opened up. Bruno Fernandes got some space inside the box but could not test Camilo Vargas enough from eight yards with the shot.

As the second half wore on, both sides wilted in the Miami heat as errors crept in.

Substitute Richard Rios nearly scored with his first touch as he found space just outside the six-yard box, but fired into the side netting.

Despite needing the win more, Portugal barely threatened and Davinson Sanchez thought his header had won it at the death when he converted a short corner.

However, the flag went off and VAR proved the former Tottenham Hotspur defender was offside by mere millimetres.

Colombia's reward is a favourable path to the quarter-finals, starting with Ghana, while Portugal face Croatia and potentially Spain in the next round.

Elsewhere in Group K, DR Congo came from behind to win 3-1 and book their place in the knockouts, where they will face England.

And then there were two.

South Korea join Scotland and Uruguay as the eliminated third-placed teams.

One more will join them. If Algeria and Austria draw, it will be Iran. Otherwise, it will be the loser of that match...

So three teams go through in Group K. Here's who they will face:

Meanwhile, DR Congo are heading to the last 32! Yoanne Wissa has added a third which surely seals all three points.

Davinson Sanchez heads home at the death but the flag is up!

It's a short corner in the first of five added minutes that's whipped in, then headed home at the far post, finally beating Diogo Costa.

But the replays make it look like he's on! It's a long check.

The offside decision stands! I'd like to see that again.

He beats Luis Suarez to the ball and heads clear from point-blank range.

Suarez then has a chance to volley with the goal gaping, but fires over and wide.

Portugal need to find a winner to top the group, but have barely threatened in the last 20 or so minutes.

They're beginning to get forward more, but can't test Camilo Vargas.

DR Congo have the lead against Uzbekistan, thanks to Fiston Mayele.

They are going through as things stand, to face England, while South Korea are heading out.

James Rodriguez, who felt a touch of cramp earlier, and Jhon Arias depart for Juan Quintero and Kevin Castano.

Both Rodriguez and Arias were splendid. Those two had great chemistry on the right flank.

Half a chance for Luis Suarez as he turns on a sixpence in the box but scuffs the shot.

After Portugal clear a cross seconds later, it sets up for James Rodriguez whose volley is headed over.

Rodriguez's cross causes chaos in the box and Suarez goes down in the box!

VAR agree there's no penalty. Suarez was the one who kicked Nuno Mendes, not the other way round.

DR Congo are level as Yoane Wissa nets from the spot after a foul from Abdukodir Khusanov.

They still need another goal to have any hope of qualifying in third.

Another good save from Diogo Costa to deny Santiago Arias's deflected shot.

Gustavo Puerta then lines up a shot from a long way out and it's not far off either.

Nuno Mendes is down in some bother, clutching his head after a collision before that Puerta shot.

Suarez has no support and tries to cut inside, but has to settle for a corner.

After taking it short, James Rodrigues crosses, but Davinson Sanchez cannot get any power or direction behind his reaching header.

It's a fantastic cross on the ground from Santiago Arias to find Rios, who tries to beat Diogo Costa at the near post but can only find the side netting.

Colombia make their first two changes, as Jhon Cordoba and Jefferson Lerma trot off. On come Luis Suarez (not that one) and Richard Rios.

Cordoba looked lively, while Lerma is being protected, having been one booking away from suspension.

Gianni Infantino has been spotted in the crowd. No reaction this time.

Portugal get in behind and Cristiano Ronaldo shoots wide from close range!

His blushes are spared as the flag goes up though.

A bit of sloppiness at both ends. Jefferson Lerma get caught dawdling on the ball and Joao Felix counters, but plays a poor pass.

Not only is it hot in Miami, but it is very humid too, so the players could be forgiven for a bit of clumsiness.

Jefferson Lerma fires a venomous shot at Diogo Costa who chooses to punch, and his 30-yard punch nearly sets up a counter of his own!

Colombia settle nicely into the second half, seeing plenty of the ball, but can't generate a chance.

Joao Neves then gets into a nice position in the box, but can't time the header as it hits his shoulder and sails over.
