Marc Marquez responds to 'superstar' Lewis Hamilton comparisons ahead of hat-trick bid at Grand Prix of the Americas

Marc Marquez has been likened to Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton after his blistering start to the MotoGP season. Marquez is hoping to make it three wins from three at the start of the 2025 campaign when he hits the tarmac in Texas this weekend, live on TNT Sports and discovery+. Marquez made it clear he has been following the Brit's Ferrari fortunes from afar.

Marc Marquez has taken "pleasure" from those comparing him to "superstar" Lewis Hamilton in the build-up to this weekend's Grand Prix Americas.
Marquez dramatically edged Alex Marquez in Argentina a fortnight ago to continue his dominant start to the MotoGP season, while he also pipped his brother to win in Thailand.
As he gears up to make it a hat-trick of wins in the early stages of the season in the United States - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - the Spanish rider responded to comparisons to Ferrari's Formula 1 legend Hamilton.
"The common thing is that he changed manufacturers, he jumped to the red car this year, and he already has a good race in the sprint race, qualifying in the sprint race at the Chinese GP," Marquez said about the seven-time F1 world champion.
"It's a pleasure to me if they compare me with Lewis, because he's not only a really good driver, but a superstar.
"Of course, we have different styles, but it's always super nice if they compare [me to] a great athlete, doesn't matter which sport."
Marquez hopes to learn from past mistakes
Back in 2019, Marquez's perfect record in Texas came to a crushing conclusion as he chased a seventh consecutive Circuit of the Americas win.
Despite holding a comfortable lead, he crashed out, with an engine break fault on his Repsol Honda rumoured to be the reason for his surprise error.
"I know that expectations are higher and higher for every race," Marquez said. "And the results don't help to calm expectations.
"So for that reason I [mentioned] 2019, because it was the only circuit where I did a mistake. I try to think in a negative way to avoid that extra confidence that can create a situation that we don't like.
"So let's see how we start, let's see where are the opponents and from that point try to do our best."

He added: "Obviously we’ve started the season in the best way possible. And the most important thing is that every practice, every session, I feel the bike, I feel the limits. I feel comfortable.
"Also [I'm] super good with the team. Every time the connection is better and better.
"But we need to keep focused, fully concentrated, because for example in my best season in MotoGP in 2019, the only circuit where I made a mistake was here.
"So just focus and try to do our best during the weekend."
