Neil Robertson became the first man in snooker history to complete two whitewash wins in major ranking finals with an astonishing 10-0 victory over a struggling Stuart Bingham at the World Grand Prix showpiece in Hong Kong.

After drubbing Zhou Yuelong 9-0 to claim the European Masters title in 2020, Robertson produced breaks of 87, 104, 71, 59, 72, 78 and 66 to lead 8-0 at the Kai Tak Arena before winning the first two frames of the evening session to secure an historic victory.

It is only the second whitewash in a best-of-19 frame final after Steve Davis first achieved the feat in a 10-0 dismissal of Dean Reynolds in the 1989 Grand Prix final.

The only other final to witness a whitewash was Zhao Xintong thumping compatriot Yan Bingtao 9-0 in the final of the 2022 German Masters in Berlin.

It is the 25th ranking event win in Robertson's career as he collected the £180,000 winner's cheque, with Bingham, who appeared to struggle at crucial times with consistency of technique, having the consolation of qualifying for the Players Championship in Telford (March 17-23) next week.

And it was the second title of the season for the Australian, who defeated Wu Yize 9-7 in the English Open final last September.

"It’s hard to take positives. Hats off to Neil. He took every chance today. He had a little bit of a run at the right times, but I had my chances," said 2015 world champion Bingham, who revealed he had been struck by personal tragedy before the final.

"The score was 10-0. It could easily have been 5-5 if I took my chances. But Neil did some unbelievable clearances and it was as simple as that. The writing was on the wall when he dished up to go 8-0.

"I always had the belief to do something but today wasn’t my day.

"My friend Lee Fairbrother, I feel for you. My long-term coach Joe Lazarus passed away this week and my Uncle Ray passed away this morning. So it hasn't been a good week off the table.

"I'll be in Telford in a week or so. I’ve got that to look forward to now. I want Neil in the draw. He isn’t going to beat me 10-0 then."

"Today, a lot went my way. I've made some amazing clearances," said Robertson, who adds the World Grand Prix title to his English Open success this season.

"As Stuart says, on another day it could have been 5-5. It is great to see him back in a final. When I come to Hong Kong, I always get great support and I can't thank the fans enough for that."

What a shot on a plant to yellow bag and in goes the final red he needs for victory. Going to be a whitewash win too for the Melbourne great. Green doesn't drop, but no matter. It is a 10-0 whitewash win for Robertson.

Stuart has a prod at a double on a red, but just off the potting angle and Neil wallops in long red to yellow bag. That is immense.

Can't cannon open the four remaining reds as Neil then knocks green safe in case of the counter attack from the Balrun.

Not sure if Bingham will be coming back to the table in this final with Robertson closing in on a 10-0 whitewash win.

Poor safety by Stuart and Neil bags a corking long red. Stuns onto the black. Is this the beginning of the end of this match?

But another fine shot by Bingham as he knocks a red over a top pocket in with another red. Fighting the good fight as always. Been a difficult old day for Stuart as he is forced to run safe.

Robbo misses red with a rest, but Bingham back out of position after canning the missed red by Robbo. He can't believe that positional shot. Bingham makes a mess of a cut on a yellow. Struggling with his technique out there. The yips is no fun in any sport.

Ballrun is in first here in the frame he needs to avoid a whitewash defeat. Lovely long red and holds for the black too. Big moments coming up for Stuart then in his quest to register a frame, but he misses a straight red. That is a shocker from someone of his ability. Robbo back at the table looking to get the title wrapped up at this visit.

Stuart can't cut in tricky brown to left middle, and Robbo takes out brow, blue, pink and black for another brilliant clearance. The pot on the blue was genius. And it is a 9-0 lead now for the 2010 world champion.

Cracking escape from Stuart after being left in a snooker. Gets there at the second attempt. Robbo then brings out the safe yellow and Stuart knocks it in off the yellow. Bingham looking for yellow, green and brown. But Bingham can't land on green from yellow.

Down to the final two reds in this frame with Robertson closing to 24 points behind. Lovely safety shot by Neil and he slides in a red along top cushion from the Bingham response. Yellow tied up on a side rail. Brown and red now tied up near yellow pocket.

This is more like 'Ballrun' snooker fans know and love, but he then misses a simple blue on 47. Has been the story of a frustrating day really for Bingham and another chance for Robertson to recover out there.

Lovely long red by Stuart and he used the angles of the jaw to hold for the black. First aim this evening in Hong Kong is surely to register a frame in this final.

Poor break-off shot by Stuart leads to Robbo sinking a long red before snaring a plant on two reds seconds later. Everybody loves a plant. Hong Kong crowd no different to others around the globe. But he misses a cut on a brown and Bingham responds by chipping in a red with rest.

So players making their way out for this final, the first at the Kai Tak Arena in Hong Kong. Are we in for a short or long night? That is a stunning shot by Robertson down side rail on final red to yellow bag. Chance of another huge counter clearance from the Aussie.

But is there going to be a counter-attack from Robbo as red to left middle disappears? One final left is near a side cushion. So this frame not yet a done deal. What a huge steal this could be.

Great red from Bingham to get first go at these balls in the eighth frame after Robbo was in early on. Golden chance to finally get his first frame of this final won. Declares on 63 this time. 'The Ballrun' battling hard to stave off threat of a whitewash.

This is very impressive from Neil. Composed and clinical among the balls. And that missed red by Stuart is going to cost him another frame. Final red down rail doesn't drop, but another 78 break from Robbo. 7-0 it is.

Robertson drawing level on points in this frame in his quest for a 7-0 lead. Not sure there is any way back for Bingham in this final unless there is a dramatic change in the mood music. Which is all about a procession to the title at the moment.

But he misses a sitter of a red with his technical issues in cueing appearing to cause him serious grief. Robertson gifted a return to table he never thought possible.

Neil misses a thin cut on a red at top end of table before Stuart prods in a long red. First poke at these balls then as he bids to win his first frame of this final.

That is a supreme clearance of 72 from Neil this time to see out another frame for a 6-0 lead in this final. Blue and mid-range pink to finish showed a trademark clinical edge. Bingham made the half-century, ran safe and never seen another ball. What can you say? Just too good from the Aussie. And on we go here. Two more frames in this opening session.

Majestic shot from Robertson to land on a red from slotting blue near a side rail. Green might yet be the key ball in this frame near a side cush in baulk.

This has been the best of Bingham so far in this final. 56 break before he runs the white back to baulk. Robbo then picks out a stunning long red near a side rail. Is the counter punch going to be delivered here?

Registering his first frame of this final might help to settle Bingham down. Looks to be in better touch at this latest visit.

Robertson goes for a long red, but doesn't drop. Bingham left with an easy starter, but only makes one before he misses a tough cut on black off spot. Really struggling badly out there. Confidence clearly an issue, but he gets a good break by slashing a red into a top bag off the black. Can he steel himself at this visit.

'The Ballrun' didn't get much run of the ball on that occasion. The Melbourne man mops up the colours to move five clear in the race to 10. Three more frames to come in this opening sesh. Robbo will be greedy for them all with Stuart's travails sadly all too evident.

Stuart almost flukes the final red to right middle after escaping from a snooker, but he sticks up red to yellow bag. And chance for Neil to see out another frame for a 5-0 lead in this final.

BINGHAM 0-4 ROBERTSON (44-18)

Having to do his work here with reds and pinks, but misses the pink off spot on 38. And Robertson has chance to launch the counter attack. Down to final four reds. Neil with another excellent cut on a red, but just safety to follow. Bingham scrambling to win a scrappy fifth frame as Robertson doubles a red to yellow bag. Not sure that was intended.

BINGHAM 0-4 ROBERTSON (23-5)

Robbo goes for a long red, but well off the mark with that. All a bit sloppy by his standards, but Stuart won't be complaining as he prods home a red to left centre. Now then. Big visit coming up again for Bingham. Vital that he starts scoring out there.

Robertson misses a sitter of a blue to right centre early in the fifth frame which should offer Stuart some encouragement, but he continues to struggle to get anything of note going in this final. Sluggish start to this frame by Neil too.

Bingham only made 22 as a high break. Has had chances, but he is being punished heavily by the Aussie, who is well in command of this final. 59 to see out the frame. He will enjoy his tea break for 15 minutes. Swarming all over 'Ballrun' so far.

BINGHAM 0-3 ROBERTSON (16-55)

Looks like the second half of this session is going to be about damage limitation for Bingham. Robbo in and out of baulk as blue to left middle is canned. And on goes Neil.

Story of the match so far as Robbo goes for a cross double on a red, but sticks up the red to left centre for Stuart to attack. Once again, nowhere near the potting angle and the Aussie is handed glorious chance to make a few at this visit. "On the run of play, it has been horribly one-sided," comments Neal Foulds on comms. It is difficult to disagree with that assertion.

But only 16 coming off his latest contribution as he slots a tough black off spot but runs straight into reds. A rueful smile. Bingham really struggling out there.

Into the pack of reds off the blue to right middle, but not sure he is on much. Thin red is floated in before he is forced to run safe off the green. Bingham with a highest break of only 22 so far. But that is a fabulous cut on a red to right centre by Bingham, and he lands on black too. What can he unearth here?

Another long-range red from Bingham ends up with the Basildon man bowing his head to the floor as a long-range red doesn't threaten the pocket. Off goes Robbo with another easy starter. Chance to crack on again for a 4-0 advantage. 97, 104 and 71 so far in this final from the 24-time ranking event winner.

BINGHAM 0-2 ROBERTSON (26-113)

Robbo drops in a long-range red to finish off the third frame in his favour. One more frame before the mid-session interval, and you would suggest it could be quite important for Stuart's long-term health in this final. The Aussie firmly in the groove as he finishes with another 42.

71 from Robertson. Almost over the line, but Bingham will need a snooker to avoid shipping a third straight frame.

Superb pot on pink using the rest before he clips in the cutback black for th 104 break and a 2-0 lead. Six more frames to come in this first session, but warning signs for Bingham are already flashing with his opponent already in stroke.

A very impressive break from Robertson to punish the Bingham errors in failing to score. In goes pink to right centre followed by red to seal the deal in this second frame. Chance of a century in the second frame of this final.

Bingham has slotted three great long reds in this frame, but only made 18 points off them as a red to left centre doesn't drop. Robbo with a stunning pot on blue to green bag to screw back into the pack of reds. What a piece of ball striking that is. Chance to make some progress in this second frame.

Great long red by Bingham to pop in object ball from distance before dropping in black. Opens up a few reds, but then misses red to top jaw to right centre. Stuart with another superb long red and lands on black too. But he loses the white ball seconds later. Just safety off green to follow.

Superb clearance of 87 from Neil Robertson with Bingham failing to register yet in this final. Ideal start to the day for the Melbourne man.

Very aggressive safety by Bingham to open up the pack of reds, but he can't drain a long red seconds later and leaves Neil in for a second time in this opening frame. Should be the first frame to the Aussie.
