Jannik Sinner enjoying 'incredible swing' as straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev books place in Miami Open final

Jannik Sinner is hoping to become the first male player to complete the Sunshine Double in nine years after beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the semi-finals of the Miami Open. The world No. 2, who has not dropped a set this week, claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory on Friday and will now face Jiri Lehecka in Sunday's showdown, looking to add to his Indian Wells triumph earlier this month.

Jannik Sinner said it ”has been an incredible swing” after he reached a second successive final with a straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev at the Miami Open.

The world No. 2 claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory over the German on Friday and will face Jiri Lehecka in Sunday’s final as he looks to clinch a second Miami title in three years.

The Italian is also hoping to become the first man to complete the Sunshine Double since Roger Federer in 2017, following his Indian Wells triumph earlier this month.

After recording his 11th successive win and extending his run of consecutive sets to 22, Sinner said: "It has been an incredible swing.

"I've been trying to play as many matches as possible, and I couldn't do any better.

"Today was a very tough encounter. He played some incredible tennis, but I was serving very well, especially in the end and in the crucial moments.

"Standing here again, in the final, means very, very much to me."

The victory also extended Sinner's winning run in Masters 1,000 events to 16 matches, while he has won 32 successive sets in that time.

He has now beaten Zverev in their last seven meetings, having also overcome the German in the last four at Indian Wells two weeks ago.

The only break of serve in the match came early in the opening set as Sinner established a 3-1 advantage, giving him the platform to take a one-set lead.

Both players had break-point opportunities in the second set but failed to capitalise before Sinner clinched victory in the tie-break.

Looking ahead to his final with Lehecka, Sinner said: ”It’s definitely a court that suits him very well and how he plays tennis.

”He has a very flat-hitting forehand and backhand, serving very well, he’s a very, very aggressive player, and this is perfect for these kinds of conditions here.

”Finals are different; there is more tension, which is normal, but I like to put myself in these situations.”

Earlier on Friday, Lehecka cruised past Arthur Fils with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to advance into his first Masters 1,000 final.

"I'm very excited that I'm in a final," said Lehecka.

"At the same time, it's just a sport. There are more important things going on in the world right now.

"I'm just trying to do what I do best."
