Linda Noskova pays emotional thanks to late mother after claiming Wimbledon title - 'Would not be standing here without her’

Linda Noskova paid thanks to her mother, who passed away in 2024, after being crowned Wimbledon champion. The 21-year-old defeated Karolina Muchova 6-2 5-7 6-3 to win her first Grand Slam title and become the youngest Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitova in 2011.

Noskova looked destined for a straight-sets victory after racing into a 6-2 5-2 lead, but she squandered five championship points to allow Muchova back into the contest.
But the ninth seed recovered her composure in the deciding set to seal victory.
In an emotional on-court speech, Noskova hailed Muchova, her friend and 2024 Paris Olympics doubles partner, before honouring the memory of her mother, Ivana, who died on the eve of Wimbledon two years ago.
”It feels incredible,” Noskova said. ”All these matches have been physically and mentally tough. Today, especially. It wasn’t easy - right up to the last point. Karolina, you really made me work for it.
”We’re friends. I’m so glad that I could play my first Grand Slam final with you. I think we made history today.
”I believe that all our Czech fans at home are proud of us so no matter the result I think it was a good day for both of us.
”I want to thank my dad for coming here, for my family members coming here - I know you don’t like flying so I appreciate it.”
Fighting back tears, before blowing a kiss towards the sky, she added: ”There’s also one more person I would like to thank - my mum.
"I definitely would not be standing here without her, so thank you. I don’t cry normally. I have been enjoying these two weeks so much. It was all worth it - I will never forget these two weeks.”
Muchova: ‘I will be fighting’
Muchova is still awaiting her first Grand Slam title, having also lost the 2023 Roland-Garros final to Iga Swiatek.
But the 29-year-old vowed she would ”fight” to return to Wimbledon and go one step further.
A teary Muchova quipped: ”It’s really tough to find any words but I’ll start with Linda, my ex-friend.
”You’re so young and this was your first Grand Slam final. The way you handled it and the way you played - it was really unbelievable.
”You’re a kind person and human being, so congratulations to you and to your team.”

Muchova added: "This is an unbelievable tournament, a special one, the best one in the world and I am just really glad to be standing here.
”I am pretty disappointed now. But, when I look to my corner - I'm sorry, it is emotional - when I look to the corner, I have all my friends and family who cancelled plans to come and watch me, and it means a lot.
”My team who has been with me these past weeks, pushing me and keeping me positive, thank you guys very much.
"I will be fighting, will be fighting more, I want the trophy and I hope I can reach the final again and can come back and win."
