Manchester United hopeful of Andre Onana exit as club target to Aurelien Tchouameni and Sandro Tonali deals - Paper Round

Manchester City are optimistic about signing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, forcing Manchester United to look elsewhere.

Sandro Tonali, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott and Adam Wharton are alternatives for United, who want to sign two players for midfield.

The Sun states: ”Manchester City remain confident of signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.

”Multiple sources insist City remain the frontrunners for Anderson, 23, despite intense competition for the England international.

”The prospect of Pep Guardiola leaving City after a decade in charge has not dampened the Premier League leaders’ hopes of signing Anderson in a deal that could be worth up to £100 million.

”Manchester United regard Anderson as their ideal midfield signing but have shortlisted alternatives amid plans to recruit two central midfielders.

”United have been monitoring Sandro Tonali, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott and Adam Wharton ahead of a planned midfield overhaul.”

The Mirror reports that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca leads the way in the race to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Rumours abound that Guardiola is in his last season at the Etihad, and his former assistant Maresca is in the frame.

The Mirror writes: ”Enzo Maresca is emerging as the most likely candidate to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as speculation over the Spaniard's future continues to grow.

”Maresca worked closely with Guardiola at City, serving as his assistant when the club won the Champions League back in 2023.

!The Italian then branched out on his own a few months later, winning promotion to the Premier League in his first senior management job with Leicester City before being lured to Chelsea the following summer.

”The 46-year-old left the Blues in January and is seen as a top contender to replace Guardiola if his old mentor decides to call time on his Manchester City tenure at the end of the season.”

Andre Onana is wanted by Trabzonspor, while another Turkish side, Besiktas, are keen.

Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, and Saudi team FC Neom are also linked with the Manchester United goalkeeper. His parent club are keen to sell him in the summer.

The Daily Mail explains: ”Trabzonspor have made it clear that they would like to keep Onana, and there is also interest from Besiktas. Monaco, who were quoted a fee of £30m by United in June, may well try again, and Saudi Arabia is still an option after he was linked with FC Neom last year.

”Daily Mail Sport revealed earlier this month that United want to offload Onana this summer despite his desire to resurrect his Old Trafford career.

”He still has two years left on his £120,000-a-week contract and wants to return in June to fight for his place with Senne Lammens, who has established himself as United’s first-choice since replacing the 30-year-old last summer.

”Onana’s representatives are expected to hold talks with United bosses to discuss his future, but another move away – either permanent or loan – appears the most likely outcome.

"United would hope to recoup as much as possible of the £47.2m they paid Inter in the summer of 2023.”

There is no progress being made between Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid over a new contract.

His current deal expires next summer, and Real are keen to resolve the situation amid a difficult season.

The Athletic reports: ”Vinicius Junior’s Real Madrid contract is due to expire at the end of June 2027 - and there is still no sign of a renewal in sight.

”Talks were first held back in January last year. A lot has happened since - with the Spanish club now likely to dismiss their third manager in that time, with Alvaro Arbeloa under considerable pressure.

”The Bernabeu leadership is known for its ruthless decisions in pursuit of success, and there is a growing sense that important steps will be taken in response.

”In this context, Vinicius Jr has become a focal point for fan criticism of the side. During Tuesday’s 2–1 victory over Alaves he was whistled by sections of the stand - not for the first time this season. After scoring Madrid’s second goal, a brilliant strike from range, he held his hands up towards the stands in apology.

”The supporters’ reaction towards Vinicius Jr does not affect Madrid’s plans. A contract extension for the 25-year-old Brazil international remains one of their top priorities.”
