Kylian Mbappe has denied reports that his knee injury was misdiagnosed in December amid claims Real Madrid's medical staff performed an MRI scan on the wrong leg. The France captain, who spent three weeks out with a sprained knee, described the reports as "false" before France's encounter with five-time World Cup winners Brazil in the United States on Thursday night.

Kylian Mbappe has denied reports that his knee injury was misdiagnosed because Real Madrid medical staff performed an MRI scan on the wrong leg.

It was reported by RMC Sport that Mbappe played three games for Madrid with inflammation in his injured left knee, after medical staff erroneously scanned the 27-year-old’s uninjured right knee.

As per the report, the problem was then rectified in late December, after a further scan on Mbappe's left leg.

However, speaking while on France duty, Mbappe insisted that such claims were "false", and added that he is now fit to start for club and country.

”The information that they examined the wrong knee is false,” Mbappe said at a press conference.

"As I said, I may be indirectly responsible for this situation because when you don't communicate about what you have and when you don't communicate about what is going on, it leaves the door open to interpretation and everyone is rushing to fill in the blanks.

"With Real Madrid, we have always had a communication that was quite clear, whether it was when I started my rehabilitation in Madrid, or when I was in Paris, where I was accompanied by the doctor, a physiotherapist and the club's physical trainer, where we worked from Paris, so there is no problem with that."

Mbappe spent three weeks out with a sprained left knee, but has appeared from the bench in Madrid's past two fixtures, including Sunday’s 3-2 victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid.

On his fitness before Les Bleus’ encounter with five-time World Cup winners Brazil in the United States on Thursday, Mbappe continued: "I've never been someone - neither as a person nor as a player - who lives with regrets. I focus on the present and the immediate future.

"Right now, I feel good, especially my knees, which is important to me. That's partly thanks to my club, who have taken good care of my fitness. I'm very happy to be here, available, and fully fit.

"How many minutes will I play tomorrow? I'm ready to play, to start if needed. But in the end, it will be the coach who decides.”

On France’s opponents, he added: ”We all know what Brazil represents in the history of international football; it's the country that has left the biggest mark on the sport.

"They have five stars on their crest. It's always a challenge to face them and they're going to compete for the title.

"For us, it's a great challenge, and we're really looking forward to playing tomorrow. It will be a match from which we can draw conclusions but, above all, we have to give it our all."

France will be among the favourites for the 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.

They start against Senegal on June 16.
